ALD Vacuum Technologies AG:
Electrode Induction Melting Gas Atomizer (EIGA) Sold to Japan

Hanau/Germany, October 02, 2003– ALD Vacuum Technologies AG, Hanau has delivered an EIGA 50/500 (Electrode Induction Melting Gas Atomizer) to Osaka Yakin Kogyo in Japan. The system was started-up successfully in June 2003 and the production of high quality metal powders has already begun.

The EIGA system – developed by ALD in the early 1990s – is able to produce fine powders of highly reactive metals such as Titanium as well as refractory metals such as Niobium. A prefabricated electrode is induction melted crucible-free at up to 2500ºC and gas atomized to spherical powders with a certain amount at particle size of less than 45_m.

The EIGA system in Japan will be used for the production of MIM (Metal Injection Moulding) powders used for the making of shaped parts for consumer products, e.g. watchcases and jewellery pieces, and for applications in medical technology.

For more than 25 years there have been business contacts between ALD Vacuum Technologies AG, formerly Degussa Durferrit and the Japanese heat treater, Osaka Yakin Kogyo. With this project a long-term business relationship continues successfully.
