3rd International Gear Steel Symposium:
Hanau, Germany August 22, 2002
The 3rd International Gear Steel Symposium on May 23 and 24, 2002 in Wetzlar, Germany created a lot of interest in the gear industry.
Approx. 80 participants from all over Europe attended this symposium, jointly organized by ALD Vacuum Technologies AG, Hanau and Buderus Edelstahlwerke, Wetzlar.
The focus of these joint symposia is on interdisciplinary findings concerning the interaction between materials and production technology. The objective is to make progress in quality, productivity and environmental protection through a close cooperation of all parties involved in the production of gear wheels (oder gears).
Main topics of this years symposium were the Influence of Pre-Heat Treatment on Distortion and Machinability as well as New Alloying Concepts for High Temperature
Carburizing under Vacuum. Other papers dealt with Productivity Improvement by High Temperature Carburizing and High Pressure Gas Quenching Optimized for Specific Materials and Components.
Gunther Schmitt, Klaus Loeser and Joachim Boss represented ALD Vacuum Technologies AG. Messrs. Rüdiger Heinke, Steffen Rehberg, Walter Grimm and Frank Hippenstiel were the presenters for Buderus Edelstahl. Franz Hoffmann from the Institute for Materials Technology (IWT) in Bremen moderated the symposium which will be repeated for the fourth time in the year 2004.
